Tension
Final

Teens in today’s age are constantly pulled in a million different directions with, friends, family, school, sports, etc. These busy schedules can leave kids feeling completely overwhelmed and extremely stressed. I think of this situation like a game of tug-of-war, each aspect of someone’s life fighting for attention. The rope gets pulled so tight that something must give, usually its one of the teams, in this scenario the team is one of the activities, rarely, the rope snaps because of the tension put on it. This is when a person snaps, they break down, panic, and give up. People can only take so much before they crack, this point is different for everyone, but everyone has one and sometimes people do not realize how close someone is to breaking.
I wanted to convey this metaphor in the picture instead of someone physically being pulled in separate ways. Many of my photos include a human subject so I thought I should try something new and design a concept involving a different type of subject. Although the rope is being pulled, it is not shown who (or what) is pulling on each side of the rope like I described if my metaphor instead the tense rope is being slowly burned away before it breaks. I want to convey that it is only a matter of time until the rope breaks instead of if the rope will break so I felt the fire better represents this idea. The fire is the ‘fuel’ leading to the snapping of the rope instead of the people pulling, but the overall idea that a person will crack under stress eventually is still developed.
